A LESSON FROM KCSE RESULTS 2016
HISTORICAL KENYA CSEE RESULTS 2016
Kenya registered a credible history in Secondary Examination (KCSE) release on 29th December 2016. The KCSE results 2016 were historical in many senses, one the strict and tight rules during examination and marking ever experienced before, the quick time of release as compared to many years. KCSE was administered from November 7 to 30, 2016 in 9,158 centers across the country and results released on 29th December 2016. Mind you the 2015 KCSE results were released march 2016
KCSE RESULTS OVERVIEW&ANALYSIS
Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) released Shocking 2016 KCSE exam results out, with only 141 scored straight A’s
This is to say only 88,929 equivalent to 15.41 per cent (out of 577,253) of the candidate’s attained grade C+ and above, which is the minimum entry qualification to university, compared to 169,492 last year.
What does this mean? This means some 485,196 candidates failed to make the university grade, out of a total of 574,125 candidates who sat the exams this year. (Some few results withheld for some irregularities)
Contrary to previous years: In 2016 number of A’s is 141, 2015 number of A’s was 2636, 2014 number of A’s was 3017 and in 2013 number of A’s was 2722
The Educational cabinet secretary Fred Matiang’i said "We registered credible results, but we still have a lot of work to do to encourage our colleagues to do the right thing”
Unlike in the past years, no results were cancelled for cheating. Last year, results for 5,001 candidates were cancelled over irregularities; the highest in the history of the national exams.
- The number of subjects with a decline in performance was twenty 20 in the year 2016 compared to 10 in the year 2015
- In the exams, five subjects recorded significant improvement in performance, compared to 13 that recorded a significant improvement in performance in 2015.
- Art and Design, Computer Studies, Drawing & Design, Woodwork and Kenyan Sign Language were the most improved subjects (2016).

Giant schools overthrown
Disbelief as Maseno School (Nyanza) lost. The institution, which registered more than 200 candidates, failed to score a single A grade, a pale shadow of last year, when they had 137 As.
Another giant, Maranda High School managed ONLY two As, down from 68 last year. The school also posted 166 A- and 87 B+ in last year’s exam.
Why sharp and shocking drop in KCSE results 2016?
1. NO Examination leakage. The Cabinet Secretary proved to the public that KCSE examinations were not leaked, and that all attempted cases of examination malpractices were detected and dealt with appropriately before they could happen.
2. Tight rules introduced by the Government during the exam and marking. Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i said the reduced number of A’s was expected. Some schools that had over 200 A’s last year and this year, some of them do not have a single A,”
On his speech KNEC boss Prof George Magoha condemned the tendency of some schools getting many A’s which are unrealistic. He insisted in any population, the "A materials" fall between five and 10 per cent, and therefore Kenya being a normal country cannot keep producing A's that surpass what would be expected in a normal distribution curve. And that it is stupid mentality of the highest level and nobody should be associated with such," he stated.
TEACHERS INVOLVEMENT IN MALPRACTICES
Report shows "8 or 9 out of 10 teachers are true to their profession. A few who attempted exam malpractice will not be allowed to spoil for the name of bulk of staff will be dealt with by the Teachers Service Commission.
