Lesson #5: Ideas are Cheap. Execution is What Matters.

Lesson #5: Ideas are Cheap. Execution is What Matters.

I'm known as the goal girl, creating Game Plans to support the vision of our clients. They bring us the what; we lay out the how.?

Here's why that matters.

Everyone has ideas. The creative among you have so many ideas.?

Ideas are seductive because they're like a little hit of dopamine, a mini dream explosion inside your brain. It feels good to have ideas; to get carried away in the fantasy of those ideas coming to life. And that's a necessary start on the path of creation.

But it's only the starting line.?

The point was really driven home when entrepreneur and investor Sara Batterby spoke at the Pregame Clubhouse in 2017.?

When speaking at a Startup Week event for my community of entrepreneurs, the inaudible gasp happened when Sara blithely said during Q&A, “I don’t ask people to sign noncompetes.”

The room fell silent. Wasn’t the legal promise to not disclose ideas vital to a startup’s value?

Not really, Sara explained. Ideas are a dime a dozen. Execution is what matters. No one else will or can do it just like you. An idea poorly executed renders the idea itself powerless. The activation of the idea is what wins in the long run.

Think of all the businesses you admire. Now, realize how much of their excellence is tied to how they do what they do.?

What's your big idea? How can you get on the path of execution?

On that path already? How can you bring more excellence to the experience?
