Having recently collaborated with some great people (thanks @laurathomas @mandywhithers @bengeoghegan @traceyhopkins) and from all my extensive (*read “excessive”) research on marketing and sales techniques I have learnt lots ??
For example…..
“Content” you put on social media should follow the 80/20 rule. Who knew?! ????
That’s 80% engaging/interesting/insightful/useful information on your area of expertise and 20% sales pitch ??
My problem? I’m much more comfortable with that 80% and shamefully bad at remembering the 20% sales part ?? Some may say not the best business practice in the world?
What can I say? I do people, not sales. Who knows, given time I may be converted…. (‘scuse the pun ??) One of my first ever “proper” Linkedin posts was about how much I hated social media and in particular content and nowadays I love to write (although must try harder to remember the 20% sales patter ??)
......Which brings me onto my next point…….
?? ?? ?? People are engaged by (or not) people ?? ?? ??
?? ?? ?? People work for (or not) people ?? ?? ??
?? ?? ?? People learn from (or not) people ?? ?? ??
?? ?? ?? and I am 100% convinced people buy from (or not) people ?? ?? ??
So in the spirit of boosting my visibility, I will very soon be popping my video cherry ??
Something I have agonised over for a while, as despite throughout my life:
? Having led & coached large multinational hospitality teams for 25 years ?????...
? Having written and delivered training courses to large groups ??...
? Having designed and delivered management training days to big teams ??...
? Having arranged and presented awards nights to entire hotel teams ??...
? Having loved acting, dancing & singing solo in plays & musicals in large theatre's both here and in Germany ?? ...
? Having got such a buzz from playing various sports in front of spectators ????♀?...
? Having stood weekly on a VERY large stage by myself introducing the ships restaurants to up to 900 American passengers as the only native English speaking manager in the food & beverage department ??...
? Having always been happy to take one for the team in going up first on the stage stone cold sober to sing karaoke until my friends were suitably inebriated and brave enough to take their turn ??.....
Despite all this...
I….. AM…… PETRIFIED of filming and posting a video ?? ?? ?? ??
But I am going to do it and do it soon right here ?? cos I need to do a warm up one before I attempt to do the “About me” intro video for my website, which is that frog I’ve been putting off eating for months ???????♀? So wish me luck ????

4 年Lucy what a brilliant article. Related to every word. I popped my video cherry two weeks ago after agonizing for months but it was fine and I received a ton of positive feedback so I look forward to do it again. What helped me was thinking that once I’d posted it, I never had to look or think about it again if it flopped. But it didn’t. You have a very bubbly and engaging personality as far as I saw from the meetups I did with you so you’ll be a huge success. Just do it!
