Less is Truly More in tours and activities OTAs

Imagine planning your trip to Rome, your heart brimming with excitement for your Italian adventure. But that excitement quickly turns to overwhelm as you scan literally thousands of Colosseum or Vatican tour options online.? This, unfortunately, is the reality for many travelers in today's world of endless choices. But what if there was a better way?

In the age of saturated marketplaces, curated tours and activities OTAs have emerged as a game-changer. Instead of simply presenting an exhaustive list, curated platforms such as Civitatis carefully select the really best operator for each experience based on a variety of factors – quality, price, verified user reviews and crucially, language options to cater each market. A good example is Rome where we provide 90 carefully chosen activities in contrast to other OTAs who offer a much larger selection exceeding 500, many of them covering the same points of interest.?

Why is this approach so beneficial for travelers??

  • Reduced Anxiety, Increased Enjoyment: As Barry Schwartz argues in "The Paradox of Choice," too many options can lead to stress and indecision. By presenting a smaller, thoughtfully chosen selection, curated platforms eliminate this anxiety and allow you to focus on the real joy of travel – experiencing new places!

  • Focus on Quality, Not Quantity: Let's face it, when you're on a once-in-a-lifetime trip, you don't want hundreds of similar tours. You want the single best experience led by a reputable operator in your native language. Real curation ensures you find this perfect match.

  • Local Expertise, Global Reach: Curation isn't done by algorithms or bots. Real people, often local experts, meticulously research and compare tours and attractions, ensuring authenticity and relevance.

  • Building Trust, Fostering Loyalty: When you consistently find fantastic experiences through a curated platform, trust builds. You become a loyal customer, confident that their recommendations will make your trip unforgettable.

  • Curation isn't restricting choice – it's empowering it.? Think of it as getting recommendations from a trusted friend, only on a larger scale.? In our fast-paced world, we constantly seek advice from those "in the know."Curated travel platforms fill this need, acting as your personal travel concierge, guiding you towards the experiences that will truly make your trip extraordinary. So, ditch the overwhelm and embrace the power of curated tours.? After all, less truly is more when it comes to crafting the perfect travel experience.

But the benefits extend beyond just happy travelers.? Our focus on curated approach translates to a high conversion rate and powerful and profitability business model for us but also for all our distribution partners who frequently prioritize our quality and conversion to higher commision rates.? This allows us to reinvest in further curation, ensuring a virtuous cycle of quality and financial success.? So, choosing less can actually lead to more – more satisfied travelers, more loyal customers, more bookings, more brand awareness and, as a result,? profitability for us and all our stakeholders.

Finally, while some might think that artificial intelligence will eventually curate travel directly, this would overlook the various benefits that OTAs provide. OTAs, through their expertise and human touch, provide a careful selection of travel options that align with individual needs and preferences. Additionally, OTAs offer reputational guarantees, quality customer service, multi-currency payments and standardization of the offering, ensuring a smooth and secure travel experience. Altogether, these factors make OTAs an invaluable option for travelers seeking a personalized and reliable booking experience.

Great points on the evolving role of AI in enhancing travel experiences. The balance between technology and human insight will undoubtedly shape the future of tours and activities. What unique experiences do you think will be prioritized by travelers in this new landscape?

Thanks for the article and for the mention, Enrique Espinel. Your reflections are very interesting. Travel agents have an important job in this regard, helping travelers to choose the best options, ensuring quality and ensuring customer satisfaction. Thus we eliminate (or reduce) the anxiety and insecurity you speak of. For this, it is important to have the best partners. Civitatis is, without a doubt, one of them.

This post reminds my favorite TED talk. The paradox of choice. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VO6XEQIsCoM&ab_channel=TED I personally felt often overwhelmed by this when planning the summer trip :).

Totally agree with you, Enrique Espinel. Today, travelers have access to an immense amount of information (which can be overwhelming), and qualifying it to offer personalized proposals requires a joint effort between AI and the human factor. Contributing to the curation and distribution chain of these more experiential types of products, as you do from #Civitatis and we do at #Exoticca, is essential. AI is a valuable tool that enhances, but does not replace, the human touch in the industry. Let's keep working together with that focus! ??

great points, Enrique! at the end of the day, travelers are still human beings who want the reassurance and safety of knowing that there are people on the other side taking care of them and their experience. :)
