Less Stress, More Impact: How to Avoid Social Media Burnout
In 2024, a staggering 74% of UK workers reported significant levels of burnout, with many attributing social media tasks as a big part of it.
As someone deeply in it (social media), I get it! The constant demand for fresh content and engagement can lead to exhaustion. That's why I'm sharing this edition of Marketing Insights. It will help you maintain your wellbeing, while effectively managing your online presence.
Batch and Bank Your Content
Instead of scrambling for content every day, dedicate time to create content in bulk. Write captions, gather visuals, and save drafts for those days when inspiration is running low.
How to do this:
- Set a recurring time block each month for content creation.
- Create multiple posts in one sitting (images, captions, hashtags, and all).
- Use scheduling tools to automate posts.
Pro Tip: Connect data in table format in ChatGPT to Canva templates for rapid batch creation (you can create a LOT of posts in a matter of minutes). It takes some upfront planning, but it can save you hours in the long run. Want the full breakdown? DM me anytime!
Stop Reinventing the Wheel
You don’t have to create something brand new every time. Repurpose, refresh, and redistribute what you already have.
Ways to repurpose:
- Turn blog posts into Instagram carousels or LinkedIn slides.
- Chop longer videos into bite-sized clips for TikTok and Reels.
- Update old posts with new insights, visuals, or fresh angles.
- Turn FAQs into social posts (your followers will love this).
Pro Tip: Reddit is one of the best ways to quickly find out what your audience is talking about. Use it as inspiration for new content.
How to use Reddit effectively:
- Search industry-related subreddits for trending discussions.
- Use the “hot†and “rising†tabs to see what others are talking about.
- Turn popular questions or debates into social media posts, polls, Q&As, InstaStories, and blogs.
You Don’t Have to Be There to Post from There
You don’t need to physically be at an event, location, or meeting to create relevant content about it.
Try this instead:
领英推è
- Repurpose past footage (events, webinars, etc.).
- Post pre-event tips or insights and follow-up takeaways. This is as impactful, minus the live pressure.
Pro Tip: Turn one piece of content into many. A recorded webinar or an event’s key insights can be broken down into multiple posts across various platforms.
Think of your Customers as an Extension of Your Marketing Team
Let your clients, customers, or community members create content for you. They already trust your brand, so encourage them to share their experiences.
How to do this:
- Ask for testimonials and tag customers when sharing.
- Create a branded hashtag and encourage followers to post content using it.
- Offer incentives for people to create and share their own content featuring your brand (reward loyal customers). This is a good one to use as an InstaStory. E.g., share a 24 hour discount to loyal customers only.
Set a Time Limit for Social Media Work
Social media can be a never-ending cycle. Without clear limits, you can easily spend hours a day scrolling, tweaking posts, or responding to comments. Set boundaries to protect your mental space.
How to do this:
- Set a timer for content creation and engagement sessions.
- Check notifications and respond to messages only during specific times, not all day. Try doing this before your post goes live. If you do so, it helps the algorithm to work in your favour.
- Log out when your set time is up.
Pro Tip: Use productivity apps to block distractions and keep you focused during social media sessions.
BONUS PRO TIP: Facebook Groups are perfect spaces for meaningful engagement, without the daily grind of creating fresh posts.
How this helps:
- Engage in conversations and answer questions to position yourself as an authority.
- Share tips, insights, and community-building content without constantly “selling.â€
- Groups let you tap into existing communities instead of building one from scratch.
Social media should support your business, not become the source of your burnout. By batching, repurposing, setting boundaries, and leveraging the right tools, you can keep your brand visible, active, and impactful without the stress.
