Recently, Infosys Co-founder Narayan Murthy created quite a stir when he shared that Indian workforce is required to work 70 hours / week to reach to the productivity level of China.
Completely contrary to the above is another study on having “Four-Day-Work Week (32 hours)” which is supposed to enhance performance, job satisfaction, engagement and productivity.
The ILO (International Labour Organization) has stressed that the belief that longer working hours lead to increased productivity is a misconception and should be disregarded as extended long hours lead to lower productivity due to extreme fatigue. It also reduces job satisfaction, motivation and increases absenteeism from work.
Post COVID, the workforce across the globe is slowly moving towards finding their equilibrium in response to a balanced and meaningful work that embraces technology in a manner that allows employees to be effective and efficient with clear accountability and outcomes, both in their professional and personal worlds.
