Less Emotion. More Emotional Intelligence

As a key spokeswoman for kind communication, a 17x TEDx producer and a coach and consultant for leading personalities in business, I would like to share some helpful tips and tokens of advice for adults searching for clues on how to be less emotional and tap into their highest self.
To recognize and manage emotion is a terrific tool but it comes with practice, discipline and eloquence. This is a trait that many adults realize in their 30's and beyond- and surprise, this was not taught in school, and for those who haven't practiced or implemented yoga or meditation and have a hard time adjusting to because being quiet during stress- the tool of silencing the mind is not something we are typically used to because the ego says, "Be right!" "Justify!" "Rush!"
I've watched the media get more and more emotional over the last few months and that has lead to a lack of trust (for me personally) because objective outlets should be just that- objective. The trust gets lost when emotion is involved. BINGO!
As soon as emotions overrun the body, mind and spirit, the voice becomes shrill, loud and perhaps obnoxious, the body shakes, we get sweaty and we sometimes say what we don't mean and we don't even believe what we are saying. We become a box with a voice that is out of control and lacks focus.
When I write books and coach clients and readers on kind communication and philosophies and practices to instill to make sure that they take on the traits of a compassionate human being, I incorporate smiling and breath to their daily routines. Breath is so key and it's free and we forget that we have that tool in our toolbox and we forget to breath and when we do, communication breaks, we feel guilty, we resent and walk away mad from situations that we haven't even gotten curious about and mostly have assumed... Oye vey. Emotions can play such a hard part in our lives and it can tear relationships apart- both business and personal.
Empathy, self-awareness, self-forgiveness and intuition take time to implement and practice. They don't just show up and appear in our lives- they take work. Knowing the emotion and managing of emotion can slow down the nervous system and help adults respond instead of react. Breath is a key factor here. The more we can breathe in the place of a response, the healthier we will be. We need to vent, folks. Healthily.... not victimhood, but healthily with humility and grounded balance.
I gave a talk to entrepreneurial women the other day and many of their woes included anxiety, procrastination and guilt and so many of them wanted peace, calm, faith, time to focus and walk away from fear. I'll tell you this: Any course or consulting/coaching in the realm of emotional intelligence will guide you towards more positive behaviors to learn how to walk away from fear on your own. Not all the time, because we do falter, but walking away from drama and toxicity as a lifestyle and a ritual throughout your years is some really great stuff to consider here my friends.
Gathering and processing information before making a decision and before opening our mouths is a key element in less emotion and more emotional intelligence because it allows us to have facts that teach us how to speak, listen, lead and learn before we think or need to be right.
Any failure on managing emotion comes with a loss of the present moment. It comes with the lack of awareness and patience and it is so natural for all of us humans to do this because it isn't natural to stop, pause, breathe and not respond. I say this because I was a reactor and now I train people how not to be! I taught myself the tools in my practice and it helps marketers, sales leaders, managers, CEOs, leaders and all types of professionals and entrepreneurs even couples relate to one another on a human level. Through my years of coaching speakers for the TEDx stage, coaching entrepreneurs to manage teams and CEOs and managers lead their employees- I've seen all types of people come in and out of my business with a frown turned upside down. These are the tools not taught in the office, nor are they taught in school and they're not instilled from cookie cutter programs either because you really need someone to be real and raw with tough love and care to get to the bottom of your vulnerable moments and help you to work through them healthily.
The next time you feel the swirl in your tummy or the heat in your body, the words being stuck in your throat not coming out, not speaking your truth kindly and directly- that's the moment where you want to say, "I need help and assistance on learning how to tame my emotions" and that may be the very moment that you decide to become a world-class communicator and boy oh boy, will I welcome you with open arms.
Let's have a virtual coffee to discuss this in detail because vulnerability and humility go great with a cup of your favorite java beans and your heart begins to open with each sip, tear or sigh of release.
Anxiety and fear have nothing over peace and calm. It's the ego that's in the way and loves to keep the emotions ruling your house of cards. Find the ace and get some help to speak your truth and discover your next.
Be well. Be happy. Feel alive.
