LeoChat Series – Part 17 A Reflection on VisuaLeadership and Hidden Figures

Jenny Guan: "Hi Leo, the article "Leo's Fireside Chat on Servant Leadership – Part 16: Servant Leadership in the movie Hidden Figures (2)" was praised as an excellent piece by Professor Cherches. He said, "I agree that "leadership is about pictures in our mind that we share with others.” This is one of the foundational principles of VisuaLeadership: Leaders need to formulate a "vision" in their "mind's eye"...and then communicate that vision in a clear and compelling way if they hope to eventually turn that mental image into a reality. If you can't get others to "see" what you're saying, then that is not going to happen."

Leo: “Please say thanks to Professor Cherches for the comment. I see that VisuaLeadership is a book written by him who you interviewed earlier as part of the same Leo series you are posting. I have not read his book yet, so I was not specifically thinking about it when I wrote my reflections on Hidden Figures. Now I am more intrigued and I plan to read Professor Cherches' book to deepen my own understanding of VisualLeadership. I anticipate a possible overlap with the concept Greenfield tried to convey in the subsection of Servant Leadership entitled “Conceptualizing - The Prime Leadership Talent” where he relates a story about Mr. Grundtvig, Father of the Danish Folk High School. According to Greenleaf, Mr. Gundtvig used maxims like “Real Life is the Final Test” to promote the reimagination of education in Denmark which then spread to other parts of Europe.”

Jenny Guan: “I will tell Professor Cherches to pay attention to your point of view and thank you for your support of "Leo's Fireside Chat on Servant Leadership'".

Thank you for the beautiful (and colorful/visual) post, Jenny Guan -- and Leo! ?? Servant Leadership is so important -- as I discuss in chapters 38 and 39 of "VisuaLeadership." When a leader realizes that leadership is not about them, but about the people they lead, is when they understand what true leadership is all about. And, yes, there are so many wonderful examples of leadership in the excellent movie, "Hidden Figures"!
