LEITNER Grip Production: Achieving Zero Error Maximum Performance
Welcome to this edition of #LEITfacts! In this article, we take a closer look at the exceptional LEITNER grip and its production process. From assembly to end-of-line checks, we ensure the highest safety standards to guarantee maximum performance. Whether you're a chairlift enthusiast or just curious about the fascinating world of engineering, this insightful read has something for everyone.
LEITNER Grip Types: Two types with high functionality and technical perfection
LEITNER offers two types of grips, tailored to meet specific system requirements: fixed and detachable grips (LPA grips). Detachable grips (LPA grips) come with a single moving part, the grip jaw, doubling as the coupling lever for direct opening and closing at stations. On the other hand, fixed grips boast a renowned reputation for exceptional security and reliability. Comprising two drop-forged main parts attached to the rope, these grips epitomize durability. Our production site in Tyrol, Austria, assembles up to 3,000-5,000 grips annually, catering to chairlifts and gondola lifts worldwide.
A day in the LEITNER Grip Production Process
The numbers of finished grips don't tell the whole story - but what’s going on behind it?
Our dedicated employees work in two shifts across nine stations, meticulously assembling each part with the help of the ELAM Software - an advanced performance-optimized tool defining precise work steps. To ensure perfection, we employ an Atlas Copco screwdriver system, guaranteeing accurate and recorded screwing for optimal results. Station 7 holds particular significance, conducting stringent grip force checks to meet our high-quality standards. The final stage includes an end-of-line inspection with a Keyence camera system, detecting any errors before our grips are released into the world.

Unraveling the Uniqueness of LEITNER Grips
A masterpiece of engineering, each LEITNER grip comprises approximately 70 parts. Additional components, such as the actuating lever responsible for the push bar lock (Kid Stop) and seat heater, may alter the parts count. These add-ons are pre-assembled, making installation easy with a simple plug-and-play activation at the installation.

In comparison: Further advantages of Fixed and Detachable Grips
When you enter the station, you'll notice the key distinction between fixed and detachable grips (LPA grips). Fixed grips maintain a consistent speed, whereas detachable grips offer adjustable speeds to suit various conditions, reducing speed upon entering the station. This uncoupling feature reduces the passage speed of vehicles, ensuring a smoother ride. Moreover, the detachable grip (LPA grip) provides the flexibility to further reduce speed when needed. In order not to falter, the longitudinal suspension helps to stabilize the vehicle throughout the whole journey.
