LEGO? SERIOUS PLAY? – the countdown
Welcome to 2020
A year of new adventures. Currently, I am in Bod?, Norway chasing the northern lights. I managed to see them in Abisko last week and have experienced bad weather ever since. I have been out to Svolv?r in the Lofoten Islands. The scenery on the road there was amazing. Anyway, enough about my trip. The reason why I am in Scandinavia is 2 workshops, Sew Nordic and Facilitator Training in the LEGO? SERIOUS PLAY? Methodology. I’m going to talk about the facilitator training here. If you want to know about Sew Nordic head over to my sewing blog, Fuzzy Inc II.
So why LEGO SERIOUS PLAY?
On LinkedIn a while ago I came across Michael Fearne, a LEGO SERIOUS PLAY facilitator from Sydney. I have become fascinated by it. It seems to be the perfect fit for me, LEGO and facilitation. I have a massive collection of LEGO and started volunteering at the local library’s LEGO Club. It compliments both my businesses, STEAMfunk Education and Filita Barker Consulting.
So what is LEGO SERIOUS PLAY?
LEGO SERIOUS PLAY is a technique that uses Lego blocks in directed exercises to build structures. The structures metaphorically represent challenges, ideas and concepts. LEGO SERIOUS PLAY builds on extensive research in organizational development, psychology, and learning techniques. It uses the context of “play” to enable effective communication, stimulation of imagination, and increased confidence. LEGO SERIOUS PLAY can yield fresh thinking, deeper communication, and problem-solving.
The facilitator training
In 2010 LEGO made SERIOUS PLAY open source, this means that there is no LEGO endorsed training. I could have done the training in Sydney with Michael Fearne. Since I am in Scandinavia for SewNordic I thought I would look and see if there was any training in Denmark. My luck is in, Inthrface is running a 4-day course at LEGOLAND. Yes, that’s right LEGOLAND. It was a no brainer it fit perfectly into my trip.
Stay Tuned
So to learn more I’m off to Legoland in Billund, Denmark, the home of LEGO. I will write an update of what I learnt each day of the course.
