A Legend. A Dream. A Luxury.

A Legend. A Dream. A Luxury.

When Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata first envisaged a new hotel in India with modern elevators and Russian carpets, little did he imagine that he was establishing a global brand that would one day be known the world over as an epitome of luxury. From the Legendary Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai (then Bombay) that opened its door in 1903 to the present day with 200+ equally luxurious properties across the globe, Taj Hotels has been and is a towering ode to Indian hospitality.

The opulent Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai (then Bombay) was the flagship hotel and for a long time ruled as the essence of the brand Taj. With its ornate architecture, lavish interiors, and impeccable service, it became a symbol of Indianness and a destination of choice for discerning travellers from around the world.

Taj, The Iconic Indian Global Brand.

The Taj Mahal Hotel’s success led to the creation of the brand Taj. Throughout the early half of the twentieth century, it proudly represent India's rich heritage, cultural diversity, and warm hospitality. The ‘Taj’ name not only evoked the grandeur of the Taj Mahal or the exotic and regale past of the country but also symbolized the company's commitment to providing luxurious and unforgettable experiences.

A new era began for the brand in beginning in 1980s. With renewed ambitions of taking Indian hospitality to the world, Tata-owned Indian Hotels Company, expanded into the Middle east, Africa, Sri Lanka and eventually into the major cities of the west while setting up iconic luxury properties back home as well.

In 2012, the brand launched the "She is the Taj" advertising campaign. This campaign gave the brand a whole new personality - that of a classy, elegant and highly intelligent lady who meticulously cares for her every guest and exemplified the extraordinary Indian hospitality experience. This is when the world began to see more of the regale Indian brand that soon established itself as a serious player in the global luxury hotels business.
