The Legend of Dave Thompson

There are people who work at Cornell for a bit and move on after a few years. And then there are those who work at Cornell who become legends long after their time here. ?One such legend is Dave Thompson, who worked in the sales department at Cornell for 16 years before retiring in 2011.

???????????????“Dave was a character,” Jessica Pearson , COO of Cornell, recalls. “He never took anything too seriously, except for customer service, and he was always a goofball”.

Dave was a fixture in the sales department who was trusted to train new salespeople and even moonlighted in tech support until he tried to assist a customer with a wiring question.

Legend states Dave Thompson was walking a customer through rewiring a 4200 panel and the panel “blew up”. (While “blew up” conjures mental images of a fantastic explosion, upon further investigation, it was found that the panel simply stopped working).?Upon hearing of the panel no longer functioning properly, Dave Thompson sent out a new circuit board as an advanced replacement to the customer.?

Here at Cornell, we aren’t afraid to admit we don’t know the answer. Collectively, we can answer almost any question you have. (Especially if that question is regarding wiring. Wiring questions are reserved for our knowledgeable tech support team). Dave Thompson was an integral part of Cornell, and his impact continues to be felt today.
