Legalized Dehumanization has begun in earnest and it is led by the Currently Occupied Republican Party.

I always thought I’d have joined the resistance if I were in France in WW2. It looks like I may get my chance, here in the USA, in the next few months and years.

I believe Civil War is coming. It will be a fight for our faulty Democracy against the fascism of the Currently Occupied Republican Party.

It is shocking to have to write this, and it is urgent that we name what’s happening.?

Are you aware?

Are you scared?

Are you ignoring it because it’s all just too much?

I hear you. And.

If you are not an able-bodied, christian cis het white Republican man, your life is in danger.

I love my country. For all its bullshit and greed, I love the USA.

But I’m scared for my country.

I used to wonder how my grandmother knew when to leave Germany. What made it clear to her that there was no way to stay and stay alive? And in France, what made some people join the resistance? And in Amsterdam, what made the entire country take action to protect those who could not protect themselves and save thousands as result?

Are you prepared to provide hiding places, navigate or lead others to underground escape routes, create false papers, offer food, clothing, money, and weapons to those in need?

Fascist White Supremacy is here in the USA. The people who want an Aryan country are very organized. Very, very organized. And they are winning.

There’s no more time to ignore the antics of Trump, DeSantis, Haley, etc. because they’re no longer antics. These people are serious about eliminating Black history, eliminating women’s rights, and eliminating gay and transgender people completely. And that’s just the laws we’ve seen in the past few months. Surely there will be Legal Dehumanization attacks on Jews, Asian, Latin X, Indigenous, and differently-abled people.

Legalized Dehumanization is here, and it can be much worse if we don’t take action.

Do I love how our country runs right now? No. I do not. But I will fight for it rather than let it become an Aryan fantasy come true. I’m literally talking about LAWS and HUMAN RIGHTS. Not good versus evil. This isn’t a dystopian novel. These are real laws being passed to harm anyone other than able-bodied, christian white Republican men.

It feels surreal to write this. Yet I must.

It is painful to read the news, I agree. But we must pay attention to the outrageous statements made by presidential candidates.?

We can no longer be complacent. We can no longer let comments slide.

We must speak up when somebody says something that reveals their ignorance. We must educate everyone we interact with. We must talk about racism openly. And not just during Black History Month. We must get to know who in our circle is taking action, and who considers themselves apolitical. And then we need to beg that apolitical person to wake up.

We must speak with clarity about the Currently Occupied Republican Party. We can’t dance around it anymore. We can’t focus on making people comfortable anymore. We need to call out the discomfort and invite everyone around us to recognize the discomfort and fight.

The bottom line for me is to have no regrets. To do everything I can to protect the people I love, the people, I like, the people I interact with whom I don’t know, and everyone else. Life is worth fighting for and this country is worth fighting for. This country has the potential to truly be the land of the free.?
