Legal Deposit Libraries - books to be read forever!

Books are precious. They provide information. They provide thoughts. They provide hopes and dreams. They provide escape. They provide inspiration. These and many other functions can be attributed to written materials, especially in book form. All books that are published in the UK have to be made available for future generations. This has been achieved in the UK by depositing a copy of every book that has been published here into six major libraries. These are:

the British Library in London, Cambridge University Library, Bodleian Library, Oxford, National Library of Scotland in Edinburgh, National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth, and Trinity College Library in Dublin.

This has been legal in England since 1662, and has been extended to all countries within the British Isles. With advances in technology, the law was extended to electronic publications in 2013.

I have been lucky enough, in my own small way, to have my own three books put in the depositories of the heritage of our nation. All are available in electronic book format, so anyone can access these in the libraries at their terminals.
