Legal Alert: Only 3 months to respond to a Trademark Office Action
Randi Karpinia
I transform entrepreneurs’ ideas and inventions into profitable intellectual property assets. Schedule with me at meetwithrandi.com
Beginning today, December 3, 2022, U.S. trademark applicants will have three months (with an optional three-month extension), instead of the current six months, to respond to office actions issued during the examination of a trademark application at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). This change only applies to office actions issued on or after December 3rd.?
By shortening the response time, the USPTO intends to decrease the time it takes to get a registration. The option to file an extension request provides flexibility for customers that need more time to respond to more complex office actions.?
If you are in the process of applying for a trademark, it is important to be aware of this new change so that you can plan accordingly.?
If you have any questions or concerns about how this new deadline may impact your application, please reach out to me and I would be happy to chat with you further.?
Schedule time on my calendar at meetwithRandi.com.
Wishing you continued success!
