Legacy of the original O'Henry Hotel

Legacy of the original O'Henry Hotel

This photo (along with others) was taken sometime in 1985 for the National Archives to record the hotel's historical existence as it would be shortly demolished. I believe it was built in the late 1920's. In it's place, the parking garage (in the news now) will be demolished after being declared structurally unsound and built less than 35 year's ago. Go figure!

Reminds me of the Robert E. Lee Hotel here in Winston-Salem that was demolished. It probably wouldn't still have that name today, but I've heard the hotel itself was lovely. Included Tiffany stained glass in its restaurant, I think.

I’m mentoring Geography students at Appalachian State and UNCG! Trying to prepare them for the future. But I am also learning so much. A bit of consulting and I’d also love to be on some Boards if needed.

My dad was there covering it for the News and Record. Sad day!
