Legacy in Loud Print

Last week, I skipped posting because I was at Jeff’s dad’s memorial service. Decked out in Hawaiian shirts from his epic closet collection, his family shared stories, corrected each other’s details, and – most importantly – laughed. As the stories accumulated throughout the week, I found myself thinking about how we don’t get to choose how we’re remembered.
We spend our days juggling priorities, chasing ambitions, and curating an image for the world, as if our legacy will be a direct reflection of that perfectly polished reputation. But in the end, we’re all just a collection of stories – some true, some half-true – and what matters isn’t the accuracy. It’s how those memories make us feel connected, how they keep a part of us alive in the minds of others long after we’re gone. We might think of legacies as grand, deliberate constructions, but often, they’re the accidental byproducts of simply being human.
Consider someone who’s made an impact on you, shaping your perspective or influencing your actions – maybe someone chose kindness over being right, listened instead of speaking, or offered a hand without expecting anything in return. They might not even remember doing it, but you do.?
We can plan, polish, and perfect all we want, but in the end, our legacy is a living, breathing thing that evolves long after we’re gone. Our impact is carried in the hearts and minds of others, shaped by their experiences of us. So, here’s to the legacy you’re leaving right now – in the smiles you’ve sparked, the kindness you’ve offered, and the lives you’ve touched in ways you’ll never fully comprehend.
