Last month was one filled with meaningful moments, the kind that makes you stop and reflect. A family visit brought back memories of the lessons that have shaped me throughout my life. Watching my dad interact with my son, I could see how values were quietly passed down.And as I reflected on the influence of my parents, I couldn’t help but think about their legacy. Not the kind that’s tied to fame or fortune, but the legacy built through the everyday actions and decisions that shape the lives of those around us.

Legacy Isn't About Ego – It's About Impact

When we think of "legacy," we imagine something grand, making an unforgettable name for ourselves or being remembered for changing the world in some massive way. But is that what legacy truly is? What if the legacy isn't about ego, but about impact? What if it's the small, consistent actions we take every day that ripples through the lives we touch? You don’t need to be a world-famous figure to build a legacy; it’s about how you live your life, lead, and leave your mark on others.

Ask yourself this:?What are the daily actions, values, or principles you’re passing on to others right now? Whether it’s your team, your family, or your community – your legacy is being built moment by moment. Start by being intentional about what you want to leave behind.

The Power of One Person

We often get caught up in the idea that legacies are made by changing the world on a grand scale. But changing the world starts by changing just one person's life. The values you instill in someone, the support you offer, the leadership you show – that’s where legacy begins. It’s easy to think, "What difference can I make?" But imagine the ripple effect if you inspire just one person today. Over time, those small ripples build momentum and spread far beyond your immediate reach.

Here's an Action step:?Look at the people you interact with daily. How are you impacting their lives, directly or indirectly? Take the time to encourage, mentor, or even just listen to someone today. You never know how that small act might shape the future.

Bringing Legacy into Leadership

It's easiest to view legacy as our personal impact, however we can expand our legacy with how we lead in business and the way we inspire others to create positive change. Whether you’re building a team, growing a business, or developing your brand, the legacy you create in your work is what will define your impact long after you’re gone. The lessons my parents taught me about resilience, integrity, and staying true to my values have carried into my journey as a CEO and founder. These aren’t just leadership traits – they’re part of the foundation that shapes the legacy I’m building through my business.

Here’s something you can do:?Think about how you lead your team, your business, or even yourself. Are you leading in a way that aligns with the legacy you want to create? If not, it’s never too late to course-correct. Leading with purpose today sets the tone for the legacy you’ll leave tomorrow.

Legacy in Action: A Simple Framework

If you want to start building a legacy that lasts, don’t overcomplicate it. Here’s a simple framework to guide you:

1. Clarify your values.?Write down the top three values that matter most to you. These should guide your decisions, both personal and professional.
2. Identify your impact zone.?Who are the people whose lives you can influence right now? Your colleagues, family, customers, and community – define your sphere of influence.
3. Take intentional action.?What small, consistent actions can you take today to live out your values and make a positive impact on your "zone"? Start small, and stay committed.

Remember:?Legacy isn’t built overnight. It’s the accumulation of intentional actions over time. The key is to start now, wherever you are.
