LEGACY

 

to move ahead

we must leave our dead

in the grave of time

grief is that slow, slow

recessional

from the day of their departure

 

sometimes we pull against

the rubber bands of our destiny

strain as we may against gravity

we can't return

every dream where we do

we wake up from

 

love lives on in love

the grandfather in the grandmother

the short lived child in the family

   that survives

the lover in the beloved

the old friend in the other friend

   left behind

love lives on in love
