Legacy ERP? Two Keys to Integrate

Having a need to modernize their eCommerce sales channel, Bane-Welker Equipment needed to integrate their legacy ERP with a PIM, a CRM and a app tool for their sales team connected to all aspects of the sale and inventory.

Like many industries, the farm equipment market has unique standard practices, contracts and designations. And like others, it has its own industry specific ERP, not SAP or Oracle based. Because of the uniqueness, it also doesn't have APIs written for a lot of what we needed to access for Bane-Welker.

In addition, they didn’t have ports available for us to access. To solve the issue, we created an RPA (Robotic Process Automation) that allowed us to access this information and to be able to put it into the message queue and get information back and forth even though it was not available through their DIS system.

More on RPA

Traditionally, we could connect to some of the data through the back-end system through APIs into the database. When that is not available, how do you do it? You mimic the user. The user goes in, pulls the information manually and that is what RPA does.?It is a robotic automation of what the user would do on the keyword and pulls the information that way.?

We have done this for a lot of customers with similar problems.?We pull everything we can by API but we don’t stop at the API layer when it comes to integration.?If the client needs more information, we help pull the information via this RPA so there’s really no system that we can’t fully integrate in your environment.?

RabbitMQ

Messaging queuing with RabbitMQ also makes it a whole lot easier.?Once we have a hold of the information, we aren’t rebuilding APIs into every single system.?We’re able to deliver it directly.?A lot of benefits that we bring to bear that are unique to the way we do things and the partnerships that we put together.?More on RabbitMQ here.

Years ago, say, the early 80’s, Material Requirements Planning Systems (MRP) automated Shop Floors. That gave way to Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP2) that began automatic Business Operations. Which in turn gave way to Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) that automated - duh - the Enterprise. These Systems are invaluable to a great many Manfacturers. However, over time, ERP became synonymous with Human Resources and Payroll. And while those functions are indeed part of most ERP Systems, the specialized focus minimized the perceived need for ERP Systems. As such, continued / reduced functionality has taken over Production Scheduling, thus resulting in DDMRP (Demand Driven Material Requirements Planning). Which is, of course, nothing more than repackaged ERP based Production Scheduling. Why is this important to know? Because all too often, Firms are introducing Systems that may already exist, and relegating MRP, MRP2, and ERP Systems to “also ran” status, and referring to them as “legacy”. Here is hoping that your Systems Rob, are truly complimentary, and bring value to the Enterprise.
