Southern California is burning—mansions and modest homes alike reduced to ash.?
The devastation isn’t just material; it’s emotional, spiritual, collective.
I look at those images and just see all the movies where someone comes back from the future and views the past, and this is what they find.
Fires here. Terrorism there. Political unrest everywhere. Fear, anger, and uncertainty flood the air.
2025 is off to a roaring start in great and not so great ways. And while it’s easy to be consumed with what’s wrong, or try to paint rainbows over sh*t, it’s sobering to remember the impermanence of life.
It got me thinking… Why do we even speak about building legacies when in the blink of an eye, what we thought we were building is burned to the ground or taken away?
How do we build what’s true in our own hearts in such an uncertain world? How do we trust that we’re not just wasting our time?
My conclusion… What if uncertainty doesn’t invalidate the process, but actually redefines it?
Legacy isn’t just about what we leave behind in physical form.?
It’s about how we live, the impact we have on others, and the values we embody.
I believe Maya Angelou was quoted as saying, “Your legacy is every life you’ve touched.”
Fires can destroy homes, institutions can collapse, the world can shift overnight, and plot twists abound—but who we become in the process of building, and the seeds we plant in others, can’t be erased.
Build for Transformation, Not Permanence
I believe that legacy is fluid and it’s rooted more in meaning rather than permanence.
The old paradigm taught us to build things that last forever.?
But life is cyclical, and true legacy comes from our willingness to evolve.?
Instead of clinging to permanence, we can build with the understanding that change is inevitable.?
We don’t build just to create monuments; we build to create meaning, growth, and inspiration for ourselves & others.

How to Build in an Uncertain World
1. Focus on Process, Not Just Outcome
Legacy isn’t only about the final product—it’s about who you become while creating it. When you invest in showing up fully, consistently, and authentically, you’re already building something powerful.
2. Embrace Impermanence
Recognize that loss, failure, and change are part of the journey.?
Building with impermanence in mind allows you to stay flexible and keep moving forward, even when things don’t go according to plan.
3. Leave Impact, Not Just Infrastructure
The most enduring legacies are often the intangible ones—the lives touched, the ideas sparked, the courage inspired.?
When we focus on planting those seeds in others, our legacies can live on through them, even if physical structures fall.
4. Trust in the Rebuild
Destruction isn’t the end—it’s often the beginning of something new.?
While it can be sincerely heartbreaking every time something burns to the ground, there’s an opportunity to rebuild with more wisdom, heart, and alignment.?
Legacy-building is about trusting that the next version will be even better.
A Legacy of Being, Not Just Doing
In an uncertain world, the real legacy is how we live: how we show up in moments of chaos, how we respond to loss, how we lead when things are falling apart.?
It’s not about perfection—it’s about persistence, purpose, and heart.?
Expansion can feel difficult when it seems the world is in upheaval (yet again), but focusing on who you're becoming allows you to stay anchored, remembering that every small action---whether planting seeds of love, speaking truth, or leading with integrity---adds to your legacy.
Building for transformation, not permanence, says you're choosing to LIVE even while uncertainty looms.
It’s a radical act of hope, courage and faith in something greater than ourselves. And that’s a legacy worth leaving.
