Hi, this is Fiona. Today I would like to share the difference between LEDs and halogens lights.
For the past 20 years, the unmodified vehicle always comes with the standard halogen lights. However, with the rapid technology of cars, the lights of cars have a big change, from the halogen to HID, LED and laser lights. They can offer visibility and less accident when at nights or heavy weather, which important in our life.
Halogen Lights
The halogen light was the most common lights and known as a quartz halogen and tungsten halogen lamp. It is an advanced form of incandescent light, just like with incandescent light bulbs, the electrical current enters the socket and travels up to the tungsten filament, heating up the filament to incandescence. The enhancement with halogen lamps is that the filament is enclosed in a quartz capsule filled with halogen gas. This gas is inert and made up of iodine and bromine. Most halogen lights produce a color temperature between approximately 3200K and 5000K. Meanwhile, they are very simple to install or we can say replace. Many cars, you just need to open the hood, unscrew the old light and replace the new one and screw tightly.
LED Lights
Nowadays, LED(light emitted diode) is the commonest lights. LEDs function by using the electricity from the vehicle to produce illumination through light emitting diodes. It can last from 30000 to 50000 hours. LED lights are small and can be customized, like different head and tail design or different colors to brake or turn signals.
However, the LED lights have two main disadvantages, which have relative solutions. One is the heat dissipation problem, the lights themselves may not get hot, but it will cause the wiring and assemblies to get heat. So they designed fans, and great heat sink, thermal grease compound, and other ways to heat dissipation quickly. Another is the cost of LED lights, which is far expansive than halogen lights. But do you know the LED chips are the main part of the cost? If you want the lights can last longer, you should check if the LED chips are original ones. There are many fake LED chips on the market, looks the same as the original, but indeed fake with less lifespan as well as the cost. In theory, the original LEDs definitely worth the price considering the durability, efficiency, and brightness.
If you have to make a choice between halogen lights to LED lights, maybe the halogen light is the economical one, but in the long term, technology is advancing rapidly, LED lights become popular, and many manufacturers are willing to spend more time to design the simple and affordable lights. So I think the LED lights are the better choice.
The above is something about the difference between LEDs and halogens lights, and all related information is from the network. Should there is any proposed supplement, please do not hesitate to contact me!
