Surakarta, Indonesia – Professor Habib Al Badawi of the Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences at Lebanese University has contributed to a groundbreaking international research project exploring the integration of Islamic teachings with character development in education.
The study, titled A Transdisciplinary Approach to Character Development: Islamic Teachings and Pancasila Values in Shaping Global and Faithful Students, was published in the Indonesian Journal on Learning and Advanced Education (IJOLAE). This collaborative research brings together scholars from seven countries to develop a comprehensive framework for character development, combining Islamic teachings with Pancasila values—the foundational philosophical principles of Indonesia.

“This transdisciplinary research represents a significant step forward in understanding how traditional Islamic teachings can be meaningfully integrated with contemporary educational frameworks,” said Prof. Badawi. “By combining perspectives from multiple disciplines and cultural contexts, we’ve developed insights that can benefit educators worldwide.”
The study examines how religious teachings influence public policy, governance, and daily religious practices while promoting values such as social justice, collective responsibility, and mental health. It was conducted as part of Indonesia’s Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project (P5), which aims to develop students who are faithful, globally minded, cooperative, self-reliant, and capable of critical and creative thinking.
