The least useful activity of all time

The least useful activity of all time

Do you allow your mind to wander around and dwell on situations difficult to control? Are you disturbed by the possibility of something not turning out well? Are you worked up when you are not sure if your health, finances, future, relationships, career, or effort would succeed? Do you get afraid, thinking something may go wrong or you feel scary about the future?

If your answer to any of the questions above is yes, then you are engaging in the least useful activity of all time or, rather, the useless activity – worry. One thing is certain: there is no benefit to worry. No one solved their problem because they worried about it. In fact, worry moves us away from exploring the options for solving a problem.

Worry can be very subtle, with people engaging in it without being conscious of it or just choosing not to acknowledge it. Anytime something unsettles you or gets you bothered, especially when you are not acting to resolve it, then you are worrying about it. Worrying can become a slippery slope. When you have many worrisome situations occurring simultaneously, you may slide into anxiety or depression. You must avoid such a situation.

Replace your worry with mindfulness, a state of mind that makes you conscious of the present moment. Engaging mindfulness will help you live in the present with calmness such that you use your energy to act on the situations in the moment. With mindfulness, you can worry less about the past and the future.

The key is to focus on the things we can control and to maintain an attitude of calmness. Don’t be overwhelmed with worry, practice mindfulness instead.

Mindfulness could go in either direction of a continuum, in which way it could either be beneficial or detrimental. Everyone has an opinion on its negativity or positivity, so let's talk more about it.
