Many of the industries in late 2000's have moved to digitization starting from hiring an employee to pitching the company performance to investors across the world. We live in the world where its mandatory to check your email & whats-app messages at the beginning of the day. This help us to keep us ahead in planning to leave for office in beating the traffic (thanks to google maps !!!).
At this digitization era, many companies still relay on using leader - paper based to collect the information of the visitors who come to the office premises.
The visitors can be your potential Employee, an Investor or an Authority from local government .
This is the first step in setting up the possible impression with the visitor about company by having a beautiful lobby, good & warm reception and helping them with the process of registering them on the piece of paper.
But to take this to next level of enhancing the visitor experience is to introduce the modern technology yet having the beautiful decor of office. This particular scenario gave a thought to by grey tech idea. Replace the paper based ledger with Tablet based solution. I call this as VX- Visitor Experience, thus SyncLobby was born.
In PMI terminology, the Idea was conceptualized to Business case where we see commercial aspect. From business case we derive Project which results in Product.
As an engineer, I was mostly concentrating on the adding most of the features to the product working in nights & weekends. This cycle continued for weeks into months, but finally when product was ready to release into market there was a warm response.
Where did I (most tech-entrepreneurs) go wrong ?
- As many engineers, we concentrate mainly on the features that made SyncLobby stand out from nearest competition. Adding more features every weekend which was never required.
Learning : Don't add features just to satisfy the your ego to overcome the competition . Strategy : Concentrate on working MVP that you can sell to single customer.
2. Even though there was a initial market research was done, targeted audience was overlooked. While developing for SyncLobby , too many parameters was considered to include it as a feature in a single product.
Learning : Don't generalize the product to suite all the audience that you think it will suite. Strategy: Based on market research, concentrate on your targeted audience.
I appreciate your time taken to read this article, please share your thoughts and comments that you have faced in past or want to avoid them, I will come back with more updates in my part 2 of this series.
