Learnings from #DigitalHealth
As I am working on the Digital Transformation especially in media companies in France and Germany I was curious about Best Practices from other sectors. Therefore I went to the MEDICA - Leading International Trade Fair to see what is happening in the #Health sector and to get some answers to the following questions
1. How is #DigitalTransformation proceeding in the Health sector after more than 2 years of Corona??
2. Has the pandemic led to more digital #customerjourney in hospitals, doctor’s practices and therapists with #cloudinfrastructure solutions? ?
3. What is the role of #DATA and #AI in the #DigitalHealth sector and what are typical use cases?
After a number of very inspiring talks and panels my answer would be (very) generally speaking
As a #CDO ?We have very similar challenges. My respect, there is a clear acceleration in the #digitalisation, and more digital projects to come in the upcoming years. But there are important efforts to be done to create a digital culture on each stakeholder level to prove that technology is easy to use (#UX) and represents an undeniable HELP.“?
As a PATIENT ?I would donate my data to get a personalized medical treatment to better prevent - so why are you not moving on faster?“.?
Overall it was great to have met passionate people and listen to their stories. We have the same topics and we all need the digital experts to develop solutions for our clients and patients (Tech, UX, Data, AI, MVP, digital products, security, …).?
Here are some observations and some cool things I could try out. I am happy about comments and feedback.
International Panel about #PredictiveCare, lead by Nana Bit-Avragim (she/her) a very insightful discussion about the challenge of using DATA and more important APPLYING it to improve health care.?
Predictive Care is about the #personalization of medicine with a broader knowledge of the patients physical, living and environmental conditions. It was mentioned from all participants that there is a need for enabling doctors to make more data driven decisions to better identify risks and to prevent. More quality data is needed over the patient’s journey - also using #wearables which represent today only 1% of the data. Additionally there are important cost saving possibilities as more than 50% of diagnostic analysis are effected on no data basis and eventually are not necessary.
Natalia Karbasova from https://fittechcompany.com outlined that 70% of health issues can be treated by prevention and physical activity. Meik Baumeister , who suffered a heart attack at the age of 30, created https://cardis.io?and stressed the importance of permanent monitoring using wearables to improve daily life conditions. Dr. Daniel Delev from RWTH Aachen ?Act and interact with patients and understand the heterogeneity of patients.“ Timo Paulus from Philips made an important point in claiming ?Health care will come to homes and living rooms.“ and ?AI will not replace a physician, but a physician using AI will replace a physician not using AI“.
In the Panel DIGITAL HEALTH ANALYTICS took place a discussion about the conditions and use of AI in Health - a lively and practical animation by Dr. Narges Ahmidi .
Prof. Dagmar M. Schuller Schulter presented the start-up https://www.audeering.com/de/ and using audio to detect health issues ?Audio is the new Blood“. I am looking forward to check out some use cases.
Dr. Henrik Matthies , https://www.honic.eu/de/ building Europe's leading sovereign platform for medical research utilizing medical real world evidence data from various areas of the German healthcare system, GDPR-compliant and with European tech & -datacenters only. You already can use their data for your scientific study.
The winner of the MEDICA AWARD TOP Medical Start-up is?Willem by Idoven, a EKG-Analysis Health app.?
Rika Christanto gave a perfect pitch on the start-up stage. Bringing the power of AI to?cardiac care: Willem is a cloud-based, AI-Powered software that analyses electrocardiograms from any device (including wearables) towards the diagnosis of arrhythmias and cardiovascular diseases. https://www.idoven.ai/ the app has been supported by https://startup.google.com/stories/idoven/ and can rely on worldwide data sources. Congrats!

Another start-up to be followed from my point of view is FIMO Health #fightfatigue presented by Alexander Krawinkel , CEO.?
On the Government level gave Sebastian Zilch insights about the roadmap of regulations and priorities. One key message will be the shift from opt-in to opt-out logic regarding personal electronic health record (#ePA). ?Only 1% of insured persons in Germany have their ePA“. He also underlined the importance of a more user orientation in digital applications. All the best to make it happen!
德国波鸿大学 ?t Bochum RUB launches a Digital Healthcare Start-up ecosystem in NRW?directed by Prof. Dr. Sebastian Merkel, Lukas Kohut-Piechulek and Hans-Peter Naeve . Please keep me posted!
Besides those panel discussions here are some booth learnings:
J?rg K?lle from Huber Health Care is working on digital health diagnosis for companies and loves when they are paperless. Interesting to observe that this group https://huber-group.com/ has transferred its digital competencies from one industry (automotive) to another (Health, Real Estate, …). And it seems to work. Congrats!
A Know-how transfer from wearables and sports demonstrated @GarminHealth with a DATA ECO SYSTEM with API/SDK and real time sensor data by Jake O’Connor.
From the sports side I am thankful to Ivo Irbe , who gave me not only the idea to do a xTerra in Amelande but also showed me the technology for an improved recovery by wearables.
AlterG Anti-Gravity Systems and Michael Swaim have developed an astonishing treadmill which is used for exemple by NASA and NBA players. Personal weight can be reduced up to 80% by an air pressure system so that you can do running exercices in the early reeducation periode.??
MEDIFOX DAN have a cloud based software solution for therapists to manage their (mobile) office, to save time and to concentrate on their patients. Thx Kristin Engelhardt and Qendrim Berisha for the presentation, very smart the UX and the customer journey! And all the best to convince more therapists in Germany to become digital!
Last but not least I was impressed by the overall strong presence of the French Healthcare . It is like the La French Tech a political priority supported by Emmanuel Macron . French HealthCare is proud to count 4 French unicorns such as Doctolib , the health insurance provider https://alan.com/en-be/, DentalMonitoring and OWKIN , providing AI-assisted methods in medicine with new treatments against cancer. Hopefully more to come.
Creating & Building New Market in Healthcare & Biotech
2 年Thanks for attending our session and highlighting the discussion, DANIEL DAUM. It takes a village to raise preventive health care. Good news: we’re building, testing and eventually implementing various predictive tools to reach a sufficient level of preventive care one day soon, hopefully. Still, there are many gaps remain to focus on. In our discussion, we’ve only touched the tip of the iceberg. Personally, I wish MEDICA - Leading International Trade Fair could offer a dedicated and exclusive event/space for the international and national GPs and nurses/caregivers. Our frontline workers need to be educated and engaged with the major processes of building the purpose-driven tech. Once it is set, GPs and nurses will be able to co-create with patients, consumers and tech providers to build trust and effectiveness of emerging tech.

2 年Great to meet you, Daniel! Hope you enjoyed conversations at Medica as much as I did. All the best

2 年Thanks for sharing, Dr. Daniel Daum ! Did you learn anything about the necessary cultural change affecting the stakeholders in #healthcare, from senior consultants to nurses, from gp to office assistants? My personal take is, that the adoption of digital technology remains a hurdle to be taken by change management tools and looots of training! just like in the #media business?
