Leveraging on the characteristics of big data that describe how it can be defined, and how useful it is, the 5V as expounded by the ACCA certificate in Digital Innovation for finance came in handy in my session with some selected technical trainers. Taking them through the characteristics, I helped them relate it to their respective audience and how they maximize their time with their learners:

Volume: how much data there is. As technical trainers, it is essential that you are consistently building capacity to handle the questions and concerns that your learners would be coming to class with. Times are changing and the questions we used to ask when were younger are very different from what our siblings ask now.

Velocity: Speed has become a basic necessity in today’s age and time and the looming industrial revolution has quickened it. From fast food to fast high-speed internet, there is a huge academic gap that can be filled by trainers that have a quick turnaround rate.

Variety: In recent times, there has been a demand for a variety of services, customers more often than not, would want to walk into a shop and get all they need at once. Learners are faced with a similar challenge.

Veracity: The quality and accuracy of information are very key especially when people can easily find them on the tip of their fingers. As a trainer, it is essential you compare other sources of information put in place measures to ensure that you are verifying and churning out the right information to your learners

Value: Lastly, what values do you bring on board? What values do you exhibit to your learners? How are your learners being socialized with the period that you are spending with them?
