We are excited to announce?that applications are now open for the 2024 LearningCITY Collective Board of Directors. The application deadline is Monday, February 5th, at 3 pm. New terms will commence on March 1, 2024.


What is the LearningCITY Collective?

The LearningCITY Collective is a federally registered non-profit organization. Its mandate is to deliver Calgary’s Skills Development Framework through increased collaboration across Calgary's diverse talent ecosystem.

What is the role of the board of directors?

The LearningCITY Collective is guided by a board of directors who are active in Calgary’s talent ecosystem. The board exists to help further the mission and aims of the LearningCITY Collective. The board is mandated to:

  • Provides strategic guidance on delivering the vision of the Skills Development Framework.
  • Prioritize the annual work plan for initiatives to be undertaken by the LearningCITY Collective.
  • Prioritize the allocation of LearningCITY Collective resources.
  • Support securing resources to deliver the Skills Development Framework.
  • Support formal and informal partnerships among individuals or organizations to deliver the Skills Development Framework.
  • Ensure the currency of the Skills Development Framework.
  • Oversight of LearningCITY's Open Learning Lab.


How is the board of directors structured?

The board represents the diverse organizations and individuals in Calgary’s talent ecosystem. The LearningCITY Collective is committed to advancing board diversity by adopting expanded definitions of experience, expertise, and education and to include such considerations as age, ethnicity, gender identity, ability, income, sexual orientation, national origin, and family.

The board comprises member representatives from the talent ecosystem, including learners, educators, employers, policymakers, and funders. Board members are appointed because of their diversity of thought, expertise, and insights rather than as representatives of an organization. Board members will have a combination of recognized leadership dimensions and demonstrated expertise in areas; with the optimal board composition will have a minimum of one member with expertise in the following areas of the talent ecosystem:

  • Private sector employment
  • K-12 education
  • Postsecondary Education
  • Non-certified learning
  • Labour market policy
  • Skilled trades
  • Youth (18 -29)

Board members are appointed for a minimum of one year. After the initial term, board members may be appointed for up to two years. The board will meet a maximum of once per quarter. All board meetings are face-to-face. Sub-committee meetings are hybrid.
