LEARNING has been one of the great essences of Human Life and it helped human being evolving into great civilization by inventing and innovating over every other problem faced by them or their community. People learn for helping living being and many times for the sake of being wealthy.
In the past, people used to learn from specific gurus (saints) to gain a specific set of competencies. Eg. Guru Dronacharya from Mahabharat was known for his Dhanur Vidya (Archery Teachings). It was common practice in those days to visit these teachers in person and later these learnings were passed on to the next generation. Similar practices are followed in some part of Indian ashrams.
In the 21st Century, millennials can learn any skill at the tip of their finger due to the advancement of technology like Personal Computer or Mobile. Using Immersive Technologies (AR/VR) learners experience fake realism by being at one corner of the world. Global Augmented and Virtual Reality Market Will Reach USD 814.7 Billion By 2025. We have access to every other information on this world due to the internet but are we really learning anything?
Jim Kwik says, “Information combined with emotion becomes a long-term memory”.
If it is true, does new technology has reached its stage to connect with human emotions while learning? Yes, MOOCs are easily available at one’s available time, cost-effective and they are impactful to learn software courses where there is no touch or emotions required but what about leadership or soft skill courses?
The real Question is, which one is more effective for you to Learn something immensely?
- Old age Classroom type environment where you learn in a group, practice, exchange thoughts, interact, argue … or
- Immersive Learning where you learn alone using AR/VR
Is technology reached its stage to deliver real classroom experience using immersive technologies? Or it is a long way to go?
I personally prefer classroom experience and it has been very effective for me so far.
Which one do you prefer personally? Please share your thoughts.
