Learning to Take Control of AI Disruption

Learning to Take Control of AI Disruption

Artificial intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing—and disrupting—the way people work in nearly every industry. If you want to fully leverage this developing technology while minimizing disruption across your organization, learning and skill building is critical.

See the Big Picture

  • AI will contribute $19.9 trillion to the global economy and drive 3.5% of global GDP through 2030, according to IDC.
  • Just 20% of leaders at enterprise companies say they have the talent they need to leverage generative AI, according to 德勤 .
  • There’s already a massive surge in the interest to learn and upskill in AI—in every industry—and we can see it among Degreed users.

AI is already displacing workers and will continue to do so, but it’s important to note that ‘displacing’ doesn’t necessarily mean layoffs. According to CIO Online , four in 10 surveyed leaders expect no change in headcount due to AI. So, what does it mean?

Reskilling. Lots of reskilling. Workers could move to new roles instead of being replaced entirely, which usually means shifting and refocusing their skill sets.

But while some workers get displaced, others must leverage AI to keep their companies competitive. Upskilling people in their current roles is equally critical to creating a workforce that’s not just ready for today’s AI, but tomorrow’s unforeseen innovations. That kind of knowledge-building can give forward-thinking companies a serious competitive edge.

Real-world example: Five years ago, 爱立信 leveraged Degreed to begin upskilling a small group of 300 scientists to use AI. Today, more than 30,000 of the company’s 100,000+ employees are considered very proficient in AI.

Bring it Back to the Business

Organizations are handling this need for reskilling and upskilling by zeroing in on the skills employees need now, setting up a framework to help them build those skills, and using all the tools at their disposal (yes, even AI itself) to do it.

While you can’t predict exactly how AI will disrupt your business, you can start building some tactical advantages now. Make small investments to explore AI uses so you’re ready to lean into them if it makes sense to later. Stay curious about AI even in its early stages.

Luckily for you, there’s a symbiotic relationship between AI and learning. People need to learn AI, but AI can also help people learn. Supercharge upskilling by:

  • Using AI to create and market content
  • Leveraging automation to deliver the right content to the right people for maximum engagement
  • Embracing AI coaches to personalize learning at scale
  • Teaching your people how to learn and keep pace with AI updates

The future of learning and business in the face of AI isn't yet written, and you still have the power to shape how it unfolds—but only with the right knowledge and expertise at your disposal. So get organized, take advantage of the AI learning curve everyone is still on, and leverage AI as a competitive advantage instead of a workforce competitor.
