Learning Something Never Fails You

September is still several weeks away and I cannot help but get excited about teaching the next group of post graduate students at Centennial College - Advanced Business Management – Alcoholic Beverages. The learning outcomes of the program ensure that students get a fair shot at finding a job that lines up with their degrees (Post Graduate). While I get to set the tone for those outcomes, students bring something to the table and I also get to walk away with something too (Hint: It's not the money). Wisdom and experience can be great enablers but sometimes the outlier ideas, the ones "so crazy that it might work," come from the classroom. Students understand the world that they are in far better than I do and they are smart, adaptable, optimistic and inspirational. This is very important to someone like me who is surrounded by a generation where optimism and inspiration are not always obvious or even present. HOWEVER with each day, month, and semester, I get a little reminder from the next generation to open up the eyes and the mind. Yes this takes time out of my work life but this learning environment makes it very easy to say "one more round."

Teaching and learning go hand in hand. T.H. White was right to say that learning something will never fail you. I would add to this, be open to learning from all - you might even find the inspiration.

Public Service Announcement: For those in hiring positions, don't hesitate to reach out and ask about the next round of future captains of industry. I look for the right fit for my company and I will do it for you too!
