Learning Science: a Web of Curiosity

I’m working today to complete the illustrations for the Learning Science Guidebook: this one is from the introduction, where we consider what ‘learning science’ is.

In the text i use the phrase, ‘not a systematically organised body of knowledge, but a complex web of curiosity, informed by theories, ideas, and evidence’.

I think that this image encapsulates the approach i’m taking with the Guidebook: not a clear answer to a clear question, but rather a Guidebook for a difficult journey.

We won’t be expert learning scientists by reading a book of ‘Learning Science’, but we may be better practitioners if we build a better understanding of those things that we are curious about, able to differentiate between what is just an idea, and what has an evidence base, and perhaps most crucially, what we can do about it.

I wish I had the same gift of visualisation and explaining complex things so easily! Once again spot on! ??
