Learning the ropes: Bella's INSHUR work experience journey!

Having the opportunity to complete three days of work experience at INSHUR has been incredibly insightful and beneficial. As a 17-year-old currently preparing for A-Levels, being able to have the chance to work in a professional setting has provided me with valuable experience and understanding of how a company operates as I move towards university and adulthood. I was perhaps naive to how many teams there are working together to ensure that the company operates smoothly and efficiently, and it soon became apparent to me that communicative and leadership skills are essential in providing a sense of cohesion within the company.

Across the experience, the thoughtful planning of Flick and Mat meant that I was able to work in multiple departments, including claims, marketing, and customer support. This allowed me to begin to learn the skills often valued in different areas of a company, as well as witness the expertise of the professionals! In particular, sitting in on a marketing meeting really opened my eyes to their fluidity in the exchanging of ideas, and certainly disproved my misconception that meetings were always extremely serious and rigid when in reality, it was the easy discussion between a team and talking over thoughts that produced valuable ideas.

A few glances onto the main communication board, Slack, also provided an insight into INSHUR’s office culture. I saw hundreds of threads all dedicated to different areas outside of the office (dogs, paddleboarding, and Wednesday night football to name a few!). This showcased a team that cared about each other, celebrated small and big wins, formed meaningful bonds outside of work, and enjoyed working with one another. Indeed, this was definitely reflected by a really pleasant ambience in the office.

In just a few short days of working with INSHUR, I have been overwhelmed by the friendliness of everyone in the office and have really come to enjoy the amicable but hard-working atmosphere. I felt supported by the team and knew I could turn to anyone if I had any issues, but also appreciated the independence I was given to allow me to develop confidence in a working environment. Overall, this experience has been invaluable and the team at INSHUR has made my time here an absolute pleasure. A huge thank you to everyone who was involved in setting up this work experience for me and those who let me tag along and show me the ropes! ??
