Learning To Ride
Deep read (2 mins) Quick read (scroll down)
Do you remember when you first learned to ride a bike without training wheels? Did it go like this? A parent, sibling, or friend took off your training wheels. You got onto the bike, teetering back and forth. They held the bike as you sat on the seat.
And then they left you, walked away, maybe went inside their home and did something else.
That last sentence looks crazy, right? All of us had the same experience at that moment: someone running alongside us as we rocked back and forth, grabbing the handlebars before we crashed, running up and down the street together until we finally, on our own, pedaled away. We could ride a bike!
It’s the same situation when our co-workers are learning how to offer our Protection Plans. It’s crazy to only explain how Protection Plans work and then just send them onto the showroom floor without our help. They're going to crash! They're going to get hurt! They might even give up!
Instead, we need to be there and listen to how they’re offering protection and give them feedback. We need to be close by so that we can join the conversation (“grab the handlebars!”) if the customer begins to get confused about the Protection Plan. We need to be there for them!
Being part of a team means supporting each other as we learn new processes or programs, like our Protection Plans. When we support each other we can all…Make It Happen!
Quick read: We should not assume that a team member can easily learn a something new, like our Protection Plan. Instead make sure you are nearby to give them feedback and assistance when they need it.
