Three months ago, my understanding of how a credit bureau functions and the intricacies of the fintech domain was quite limited. The role and impact of analytics in this sector were new territories for me. Today, thanks to my internship as an Analytical Consultant intern with the dynamic Decision Analytics team at Experian, that has changed. I have gained significant insights into developing strategies and leveraging data analytics to drive informed decisions. The learning curve of working alongside experienced analytical consultants across processes, platforms and people has been incredibly steep and enriching.
Experian is the world's leading global information services company. They empower individuals to take financial control and access financial services, businesses to make smarter decisions, lenders to lend more responsibly, and organizations to prevent identity fraud and crime. The team I worked closely with primarily helped turn complex situations into confident decisions using our suite of decisioning and fraud management tools that involved building and protecting trusted relationships with customers while minimizing losses.
At the commencement of my internship, I set forth the goals of immersing myself in the finance sector, enhancing my grasp of analytical consulting, and applying my technical acumen to tangible financial challenges. I was keen to navigate the operational landscape of a credit bureau, engage with various decision-making metrics, and assist clients in seamlessly connecting data insights. My experience has transcended the mere completion of deliverables; it has involved navigating through uncertainty, embracing a culture of continual learning, and fostering personal and professional growth.
From honing my skills in leveraging Experian's products like AIS Foresight, Optimize and validations suite, to engaging directly with C-suite executives for requirement gathering, negotiation, and solution delivery, the past few weeks have taught me a new sense of collaboration across cross-functional teams. The hands-on experience was particularly transformative. I was entrusted with real responsibilities, contributing directly to projects that were not only challenging but also critical to our clients’ success. This direct involvement not only enhanced my practical skills but also allowed me to witness the tangible impact of our work first-hand.

As I reflect on my internship at Experian, one aspect that truly stands out is the privilege of working with a team whose members each bring over two decades of experience. Entering as someone new, the team's inclusive approach allowed me to delve deeply into both the technical and business aspects of our projects. They patiently guided me through the intricacies of our work, ensuring I grasped both the strategic and operational layers of our initiatives. Here's when realized that the most accomplished professionals are also the most humble and approachable. Establishing relationships founded on mutual respect and a collective pursuit of excellence proved to be incredibly fulfilling. Additionally, the opportunity to network with senior executives not only enriched my mentorship experiences but also honed my networking skills, enhancing my professional development.
I am sincerely grateful to Experian for this incredible opportunity. I extend special thanks to my manager, Neil Gilchrist whose consistent guidance, support, and invaluable insights throughout this journey have profoundly impacted me.
