A learning 'only' organization is not enough!

Globally, large high-growth organizations are embracing two major paradigm shifts - Shifting the conversation from 'training' to 'skilling' and that Employee 'development' generally begins with a self-realization of current or future need and the motivation to do something about it.

True skilling approach requires a blend of (i) on-the-job learning (ii) coaching and (iii) training, not necessarily, but broadly split in the ratio of 70:20:10, as prescribed by the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL), a global nonprofit organization focused on leadership development and research, founded in 1970 and headquartered in Greensboro, North Carolina.

A Learning Management System (LMS) based solution is fundamentally flawed because it is designed with an inside-out view of the employee journey and assumes a demand-supply model for content consumption. Today, employees seek a sense of purpose and a unified journey experience. On the other hand, managers need to sustain their pace of business rather than being bogged down by an under-skilled team.

Organizations need to re-imagine the Skilling Continuum and embrace Skill Management Platforms designed addresses 3 core issues

1) Create alignment between employee aspirations, organization goals and give them the tools drive their success

2) Allow the business to leverage a highly skilled and motivated workforce to be more productive, drive higher sales and more loyal customers

3) Empower HR with technology to be facilitators of talent rather than carry the burden of shaping hundreds and thousands of careers

The focus should be on making corporate skilling a derivative of business needs, thus making it efficient in realizing business outcome, rather than simply attaining an abstract training goal.
