Learning The New
I like what Leonardo da Vinci said, “Learning never exhausts the mind.”
I remember when I was a java developer and slipped into the passion of networking. I shared it with my manager and I was moved in different team where I could do more networking. This was such a pleasant experience. Now as engineering demands automation everywhere I had a challenge to code in Python, such an unpleasant experience.
In a corporate life it has happened to all of us that we were asked to work on something we never want to. We run into an immediate reaction and start searching for every reason to skip it or hand over to someone else. Some people are lucky but that does not happen all the time.
This is no exception in personal life too, how much ever lucky we are, we have to do things that we don’t want. As we are all working from home for more than a year now, I want to share my experience with learnings here.
Do not react and Ask a question
First and foremost, we need to learn not to react immediately, no matter if it’s a pleasant or unpleasant situation. Keep yourself calm and ponder over it. Ask questions. What is it I am expected to do? Why is it important? Contemplating situation can get the dust away from your mind. Asking question can save you from being judgmental on what is the outcome of the process.
Get into the other’s shoe from where you see a bigger picture. Does it change the system we are living in or working in? what benefit does it bring to the system? Why is it important to achieve it? When you chew over these ideas, your impressions may change and that helps to build a right mindset.
I want to share a small story by one of my managers where he created to a tool to do his daily work which he did not like. The tool simplified his work. He learnt MS Excel macros to solve the problem. The process to finding solution was not easy for him, but he is a happy person today. He not found a solution but also, up swinged his skills.
Like And Unlike
Feelings, ideas, goals, experiences and opinions keep changing with time and we keep evolving ourself. This is an endless process. Every couple of years we learn new skills and lessons and we are no more the same person as we use to be.
Challenges With Learning
When we make up our mind to learn then the next big challenge is to create time bandwidth. Where and what to be altered to layover a new path. Have right time and right energy to absorb the right thing. Learning should not exhaust mind but build strength, just like workouts and yoga.
I went ahead an embrace the change of Python, look what can move you into growth zone. Keep the brain working with new learnings. The process never stops, you stop learning you stop growing. Those who learn to master the art of learning are moving towards growth. Walk into the growth with open mind.
