Learning more about data visualization theory
In my day-to-day work, I frequently work with data visualization libraries and whilst I have a solid foundation in how they work from a technical perspective, I felt I needed to expand my knowledge about the theory and best practices surrounding them, in order to ensure the best possible resulting visualizations.
To that end, I've just finished Dr Clara Granell's 'Mastering Data Visualization: Theory and Foundations' on Udemy.com!
The course provides a solid guide on how to construct effective data visualizations, as well as how to distinguish good efforts from bad in contemporary media. Dr Granell covers some interesting topics, such as selection bias, data normalization, 'minimum ink theory' and graphical perceptions, in a concise and clear manner.
I can definitely recommend giving this course a look, as it's given me plenty of things to consider and take back into my ongoing work!
