A very famous and powerful quote by Albert Einstein “The more I learn, the more I realize how much I don't know.” makes me highly nostalgic. It was 25 years back (1996 onwards) when I had started thinking to do “something” in IT. Those from that era or before would understand how exciting it was to learn and work on Windows 3.1, Novell Netware, Windows NT, Pascal, FoxPro, C/ C++ and above ALL, the luxury of 8 MB RAM ??. Today, we say IT is changing rapidly however those who have been in love with IT would know it was always like this. I started from Windows3.1 then learnt BASIC, C, C++, Unix, Windows 95, 98, Windows ME in just 5 years. Novell Netware disappeared, and got replaced by Windows Server 2000 in a wink. Similarly, Visual Basic, Oracle, SQL and Java took the industry by Storm in no time. Then came the time of IT Infrastructure aka Infrastructure Services and became Huge industry no less than Software.
The point I am trying to emphasis here is the World is ever evolving. The speed is only getting faster. If we are stuck with Fixed mindset, we risk getting obsolete. Its irrespective of any Industry or domain we need to learn continuously to keep up with changing Technology and new ways of working.
Learning has played a huge role in my Professional and Personal journey and here are my few takeaways:
Learning never goes Wasted: I started with coding and developed good coding skills however post 9/11 happened and there were no Jobs. So, I had to get into BPO industry (in 2002/2003) and learnt lot from scratch about Customer handling skills. At that time, I never thought those skills would help me 18 years down the line as I spend lot of time managing various stakeholders. I realised, career in BPO might not be sustainable so I kept learning new Technologies and got a break with major IT Infrastructure MNC. Its almost two decades in IT Industry but the focus on Learning always remained same.
Building Eminence: As Quoted by JF Kennedy “Leadership and Learning are indispensable to each other”. Irrespective of what our role is and the Industry where we are working, Learning helps us in building Eminence and that eventually helps us in our Growth.
Evolve: I wrote my first blog, just few lines in 2010 (below) and so far, have published more than 20 blogs and numerous other posts, some of them very popular on LinkedIn (www.dhirubhai.net/in/apurvasinghal). Over the years, I practiced and today feel comfortable in writing on myriad topics (including this one). I encourage my colleagues, team members, friends and family members to share their thoughts and assist with ideas.
Sharing Knowledge: As it is famously Quoted “In learning you will teach, and in teaching you will learn”. Learning and Teaching (sharing Knowledge) must go hand in hand and we must always be available to share our knowledge.
Last but not the least, I make Learning a Fun. I firmly believe, Learning is a Journey than a Destination (#Stillsomuchtolearn). While the world today is under the grip of COVID19 Pandemic, we must continue on this path to continue to Learn. Learning would give us strength to overcome the new challenges.
Wishing All Happy Learning and Safer World.

4 年You are so very right, my friend! I'm the sum total of all my learnings acquired thus far. Fortunately, I have been closely associated with learning functions in my former organizations, TechM and IBM. PMTalks was such a wonderful forum we had brought to fruition at IBM Noida along with several colleagues to share each other's learnings and hone presentation skills. For you, I have no hesitation in admitting that I have seen you from close quarters as a leading learner as well as teacher at IBM.
