THE LEARNING MINDSET
After digesting a post last week on how LinkedIn impressions motivated a
young adult to stay consistent in dishing out value, I had a change of
perception about learning.
Before now, I have been one of those individuals that encourage others to
learn because of the added advantage (earning) that comes with it but after
that post, I was able to look at learning from a different perspective and
I have come to a conclusion that learning will be a major priority to
everyone if they see it majorly as an opportunity to grow, expand their
horizon and build capacity.
I was able to analyze that if learning was seen beyond a medium to earn, we
won’t have many learners complain about education or give up on it.
Looking at learning on a deeper level, I must say that the reason why
learners feel pained and hopeless when they don’t get a job after
graduation is that they learned all they were taught at school so they can
get a good job.
I do not know your ideology about learning or education but I have come to
confidently tell you that you should learn with the mindset to grow, expand
your horizon and build capacity because that is the only mindset that can
keep you on track in these changing times.
This mindset will help you build on yourself to the point that you would
not be satisfied with being normal. You will want to do more to be the best
you can be.
Relating this new perception to some of my experiences, I have been able to
note that most of the things I have earned were things I did in the past to
grow and become a better version of myself.
When I started taking online courses some years ago, I did not start with
the mindset to tender my certificates/licenses to earn. No, I did not. I
started to learn and put my brain to work. I had not been using my brain
for academic-related work before that time so I felt I needed to learn and
know some academic-related work. With the presence of the module
assessments, I was able to know if my brain could still assimilate academic
work. I started courses that are in line with the path I choose to tread
and today, I use some of the knowledge I have gathered in those courses and
some life/job experiences to pitch myself to prospects and it gives me the
extra advantage of earning.
I started with the mindset to grow, challenge myself and become a better
version of myself but today it's paying off for me.
When I started writing, reading about writing, and challenging myself to
write some years ago, I didn’t start because I wanted to earn. I just
wanted to know, improve and be of help to others because considering my
introverted nature then, I was more expressive with written communication
but thank God for growth, I can switch from my introverted nature to
behaving like an extrovert depending on what I want to do.
I have so many stories of these experiences because one thing I always try
to do is improve on myself even if they are minor areas while I await
improvements/ growth in major areas of my life.
Readers, let's have this Learning Mindset in us: “Growth and Capacity are
the essences of Learning. Earning is an added advantage.”
Love always,
