Learning Management Skills (LMS): A new era of learning
It’s a process of learning management system ranging platforms for managing, training and educational records to software for distributing online or blended/hybrid college courses over the Internet with features for online collaboration. Colleges, universities, school districts, and schools use LMS to deliver online courses and augment on-campus courses. LMS also act to augment the lessons the teacher is giving in a brick and mortar environment, not just replace them. Corporate training departments use LMS to deliver online training, as well as to automate record-keeping and employee registration.
There are a lot of good suggestions in replies I have got while I asked this question to my friends and students.. As others have said, it really does depend on what you're looking for. I'd say that flexibility should be a key in your analysis. One LMS should be able to service your internal and external training needs. In fact, you can probably save money on your training production costs by re-purposing training materials. For example, you could train your sales folks and customers by re-using much of the same material that gets annotated for the benefit of your sales team.
Make sure that whatever LMS you choose supports all course and media formats that you expect to use. Your approach to the extended enterprise is to have a single LMS and single learning catalog that can have many views. So you could, for example, have multiple portals servicing employees, dealers, distributors, and customers. In other words, you could offer custom views and branded portals for each group of learners. I've just finished writing a short white paper on things to look for when you're comparing Learning Management Systems. I tried to cover most bases. It might give you some additional insight.
Whatever solution you choose, I think that you're headed in the right direction. Customer training should be part of far more customer care and retention programs than it has been. A typical LMS Solution must have following features:
- Social Networking Features for p2p ,group and social collaboration and learning
- Communication Channels like Chat facility, Integration with IM Messengers for Communication
- In built document and content management solution to store ,share and create content
- Other features available in any generic LMS
- Most importantly it must have multilingual support in application and course content to reach regional and global audience.
- Analytics, assessments etc are important modules any good LMS must have.
