Knowledge workers often accumulate a vast array of skills and knowledge over time, but unfortunately, many of these skills go underutilized, gathering dust on the proverbial shelf. More often than not, we spend countless hours learning something new, only to never use it in a meaningful way. (Blockchain, anyone?)

If this sounds familiar, rest assured: You’re not alone. Without regular evaluation, most of us struggle to effectively allocate our learning efforts. We end up with a collection of underutilized skills, outdated knowledge, and missed opportunities for growth.

This certainly resonates with my personal experiences, working to build a good base of knowledge about water and sewer systems (Flanders & European) while keeping in my mind the ecology side of the story including groundwater hydrology. In my current new job, after 9 years building in my previous company (which I'm grateful for), it allows me to keep tabs on a lot of things, to have a broad overview while still learning on the detailistic skills I need on the job.
