Learning in Lockdown

Learning in Lockdown

As the world continues to fight the rapid spread of COVID-19, many people are adapting to digital methods of working and learning online from home. At Watson Martin we are very fortunate in that we have been offering online delivery for many years and this expertise has certainly paid off in recent weeks! As a result we have seamlessly moved all our CIPD and apprenticeship programmes along with our in-company courses and consultancy online. So, if you are thinking about taking this time to get CIPD qualified at home, we hope our blog will answer some of your questions about learning in lockdown. By Heather Watson, Director Watson Martin.

What options for getting CIPD qualified are currently available?

Watson Martin offers CIPD HR and L&D programmes at Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced levels. There are three learning options available for most of our programmes:

? Workshops – currently available as live interactive webinars (virtual classrooms) which are also recorded.

? Online – access to a wide range of learning materials via our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).

? Fast Track – a combination of webinars and online. Designed to get you CIPD qualified as quickly as possible.

What technology is used?

We use the platform Zoom for live webinars and Vimeo for recordings. All learning materials, video recordings, podcasts and downloadable workbooks are available online via our VLE. Most of our personal advisers use Skype for individual meetings with candidates.

What support do you offer?

Watson Martin programmes are unique in that they combine the very best of digital learning with outstanding tailored one-to-one tuition. All our candidates and apprentices are supported throughout their qualification by a dedicated expert adviser who is allocated at the start of the programme.

How long does it take to become CIPD qualified?

The length of our CIPD programmes varies from six to 24 months depending on the level and whether it is a Certificate or a Diploma. We have recently received a surge in enquiries for our Fast Track range of online courses from those looking to get qualified quickly whilst they have time on their hands.

Do I still gain membership of the CIPD?

Yes, everyone who obtains their qualification automatically achieves Associate Membership of the CIPD. Advanced qualifications can lead to Chartered Membership or Chartered Fellow.

Is there a choice of units and modules available?

Absolutely! Watson Martin has the widest range of CIPD units and modules at all levels so candidates can choose their own learning journey rather than have it dictated to them by a centre. We are one of the few companies to offer mixed mode delivery which means you can combine academic learning with your own practical experiences in the workplace as part of the assessment process. And don’t forget if you want to gain some expertise in a specific HR or L&D area to support your business, we offer CIPD individual awards at all levels.

Will learning online affect my motivation to gain my qualification?

It shouldn’t do. Whichever learning journey you choose we don’t just leave it up to you!

The entire process for all CIPD levels is very structured and your personal adviser will be on hand to help you plan your work and set deadlines. Many candidates prefer to learn flexibly at their own pace. In fact, we have noticed that more of our students are submitting their work very promptly during this current period.

When can I start?

Immediately. Simply complete the application form on our website and once payment has been received you are good to go. Our online programmes are completely flexible so you can focus on being productive while concentrating on your personal development from home.

Can I pay in instalments for my online programme?

Yes, we offer 12 monthly interest free instalments for any candidates who are paying for their qualification themselves.

Still unsure of what your next step should be?

These are turbulent times and we appreciate that deciding to embark on a qualification to help you improve your career is a major step. If you are unsure about what to do next then call us on our usual number 020 7932 2760. Our expert advisers can talk you through your options and arrange a free diagnostic to determine the right CIPD level for you.

Don’t take our word for it …

“This was our first session under extreme conditions due to the nationwide virus which has us all wfh. Tracey tackled this immensely well with us all in different locations. We found all of the slides and information which was provided to be very useful and felt at the end of today’s session confident that we will be able to proceed with our course work. I especially like how she made us aware that we have access to ‘VLE’ which we should read thoroughly and to reach out to our course tutor Leanne.”
