Learning with the learner, my mentoring journey begins.

How I'm becoming a better learner while mentoring people.
In March I was invited, by the Cherie Blair Foundation for Women to become a Mentor in the Mentoring Women In Business program. I'm mentoring a Woman from South Africa with Marketing, Communication and Branding strategies for her business.
I have been always fond to connect with people and transmit the few knowledge I have achieved so far (I will be a learner forever).
Since the day I knew my Mentee, I was excited to know more about her and how I could contribute in a way she could achieve the best results in this one year program as Mentor and Mentee. I confess it's a great challenge to guide someone and help them to find the best solutions by themselves. Mentoring relies more on listening than saying, more on questioning than answering, more on supporting and encouraging.
Below are some lessons I learned so far in this mentoring journey. I hope this can be handy for anyone:
1. No matter what you do, you need to have a passion for what you do.
2. You must have faith in you and your dreams. Not pursuing them is the true fail.
3. If you are not the first in your category, you need to create a new one so you can be the first one.
4. You need to find your strengths and what you do that differs from others, or at least, how you can do the same better or adding value to it.
5. You need to add a purpose to what you do, a real meaning bigger than profit or deliver a high-quality product/service.
6. How do you want to be seeing? What defines you as a professional or a brand? If you are not a brand, you need to make yourself or your service/product more "brandable".
7. Your experience is a great asset, but it's not enough to make you stand out in the crowd. How you sell your experience can make the difference between you and your competitors.
These are some of the questions I have made since we begun, most important than knowing the answers, it's more important to do the right questions.
The most important on this small journey so far is that I'm learning more and more about myself, my strengths and, above all, how is rewarding to help someone in fulfilling their dreams and goals.
The journey continues...
