Learning and Leading
Leaders at any scale company are navigating growth, organizational change, culture shifts, hiring sprints, hybrid-work, changing social dynamics, new channels, crisis du jour, and other hallmarks of these wild times. This makes it imperative for each of us to build more modern leadership muscle and help other leaders in our firms, funds, or companies do the same. These times require we level up to make the most of the opportunities and challenges in front of us and to better serve, develop, and guide our teams.
It seems to be perfect timing that I’m taking this year to help as many people as I can to lead, serve, and build better brands, teams, and businesses. After operating & leading multi-brand, multi-channel, global teams and businesses through growth and change for over 20 years, it feels great to take a season to focus solely on others. I covered this life chapter here On to the Next Chapter. This has meant leaning into board & advisory work, angel investing, finishing my book (almost done!), holding Clubhouse discussions, LinkedIn Live sessions, community Zooms, and more.
I’m loving it all, but I want to share these leadership lessons more deeply, creatively, and intentionally and help groups of leaders more meaningfully. Of course, it's impossible to make time for everyone to have a 1x1 session, and executive and management education is becoming more accessible, virtual, and tech-enabled. This creates new opportunities to connect those with valuable expertise with those who value and want that learning now. Given all this, I’ve decided to launch proper courses, including more to some here on LinkedIn and 2 on new platforms (gotta support the start-ups!).
1 - A one-day, 75-minute course this Thursday at 8 pm EST on Bright. I’ll run this short, live virtual workshop on Leading Through Change three times over the next 6 months. Simple, one hour, inexpensive, and easy for anyone to access.
2 - A more robust virtual cohort-based course on Modern Leadership & Navigating Change with Maven. This will be a more thorough experience and be like a mini-MBA in leadership. Here's some detail on that cohort-based course: Modern Leadership and Navigating Change on Maven:
It will be a live, virtual course on a cool, new platform, with me and fellow leaders. 90-minute sessions, 2 nights/week, for 3 weeks (9 hours of high-quality learning, sharing, and workshopping) and follow-ups with the community throughout the year.
This course is inspired by years of mistakes, wins, and powerful lessons leading teams of all sizes and rapidly scaling omnichannel businesses. Every lesson is shared with a 360 perspective of the team, the leader, and the company, so it applies to investors, executives, and new or seasoned leaders of small or large teams and companies.
I would love to get a sense of who is interested and what would make it most valuable. Anyone who fills out this 2 min survey/form to help me get a sense of what's best for you will be on the list for more info and get preferred pricing. Feedback from those interested will refine the course, but the big topic buckets will be:
- Art and Science of Modern Leadership: What it looks like, complexities, watch-outs, and best practices to build teams and companies that outperform
- Culture and Belonging: Building it, evolving it, strengthening it with offensive and defensive approaches, even during hiring sprints, acquisitions, tough times, and big changes
- Talent: Leveraging MAP (Merit Ability Potential) to recruit and retain the highest impact teams that are diverse, accountable, driven, and productive
- Communication: Internal and external, what contemporary leaders do well, and what your teams and stakeholders expect from you
- Feedback and Coaching: Best practices in building processes and culture where everyone stays rooted in the customers’ and employees’ needs and where people develop and level up constantly
- Crisis, Sh*t Storms, and Leading with a Heavy Heart: How to minimize the likelihood of issues, emerge stronger when the inevitable occurs, and take care of yourself, your teams, and your community
Details and Pricing
- 3 weeks, 2 times/week, 90-minute sessions live with me, other leaders, and a cohort
- Future course programs will likely run $2500-4000 as they evolve and expand, but the first one will be $2000.
- The course is rooted in real experience with tangible systems and takeaways to immediately level up for less than what we are used to paying to go to a conference, and with more impact.
- Anyone who fills out the form (and/or is a member of the paid subscriber community here) will have access to a $500 ‘thank you’ discount/ a preferred admission of $1500.
This investment will save time and frustration (for the leadership cohort and their teams) and help attendees expand and advance their leadership development. We paid much more for our leaders to go to conferences and other training with less specific and applicable outcomes than this will have. While nothing beats having lived experiences, I wish I would have had something like this as I took on progressively larger responsibilities to accelerate my learning!
I’m a lifelong learner myself and am loving this season of being a “crossover creator” as a business professional that is also sharing ideas and lessons through different platforms and mediums. I’ve also loved seeing how so many people I admire are sharing their knowledge through courses, and I’ve taken several of them. Learning from someone with deep, real-world experience in an area alongside others (the cohort) seems to make things stick a bit more than other approaches to learning. And doing it through the latest, virtual tech platforms is also exciting.
Please click this link to get updates once it's ready and tell me more about what would make it great for you or your teams.
I want the best feedback to structure the course to be relevant for you, and I would love to have you or members of your team or company in this cohort-based course when it premiers in late July or August.
In the meantime, send me any ideas!
Happy leading!
