Welcome back to AI at Work, a newsletter and video series that explores unlocking the value and power of AI in the workplace.?? ?
In 2023, we saw a boom of AI innovation. While the promise of AI is real, we’re only at the beginning of our journey to understand the ways AI will rewire organizational structures, processes, and culture.???
But one thing we know is true: transformation will only be possible if organizations take a deliberate approach to embracing, deploying, and adopting AI. As we enter 2024, here are three AI resolutions every leader should have top-of-mind.??
Make work more human with AI?
AI marks a new way of working with computers, and we’re already seeing the ways it can augment (or in some cases, completely automate) tasks that have historically relied on human ingenuity.??
Yet, despite this new prominence of technology in our lives, I think the future of work will be more human than ever, and people skills will be at a premium.???
As this recent WorkLab article suggests , soft skills—communicating with empathy, collaboration, and leading by listening—will be the key to growth for individual employees and organizations as a whole.??
Embrace AI and the possibilities?
You’d be hard pressed to find a job today that’s not going to be radically affected (whether directly or indirectly) by AI over the next five years. It’s a wave that’s going to sweep every industry and function.??
So, what does that mean for us as leaders? We need to get into position to ride the wave. Setting ourselves, our people, and our organizations up for this new world of work is what will define our success.??
It’s embracing a new style of leadership, fostering a culture of experimentation and learning, reimagining business practices, and looking around the corner to anticipate what’s coming next.??

Value time and celebrate creativity
Our Work Trend Index research found some Copilot users saved as much as 10 hours per month with their AI assistants. Imagine the possibilities this reclaimed time and brain space could mean for you and your entire team! But that time is only valuable if it’s used the right way. Be intentional about that new space on the calendar and encourage your teams to do the same.??
Be an adaptive leader?
The challenges we face on a given day typically fall into one of two categories: technical or adaptive.??
Technical challenges are those we’ve seen and solved before – like building a house or creating a presentation. We apply experience and skills, and the pathway to success is clear.?
Adaptive challenges are a whole new ball game. They’re unlike anything we’ve faced before, so previous experience only takes us so far. Instead, we need think and work differently, learning as we go.??
Just like patterns of work will change, leadership styles will also need to evolve to meet the moment. Check out my recent AI at Work video to learn more about what adaptive leadership looks like today.?
