LEARNING TO LEAD WITH CONFIDENCE

Regrettably, like most leaders, I spent a LONG time trying to learn to lead confidently.

Finally, in 2018 I had a breakthrough!

I realized the ONLY WAY for me to lead confidently was to lead in a manner aligned with my values and morals. At that same time, I figured out who I was and more importantly, WHY I am the person I am, and my confidence soared.

Emerging leaders often try to follow someone else's path to successful leadership, and I was no different. When it doesn't work, frustration, inadequacy, and doubt emerge, which can consume the leader. These feelings exacerbate the lack of confidence.

Since I had this epiphany in 2018, I have become a better leader and more comfortable in all aspects of my professional and personal lives. This realization allowed me to quit trying to seek out the elusive path to great leadership once I realized the answers were within.

I lead two companies, Leading Like a Buffalo and Dinamico, and through both, I help other leaders accelerate their leadership growth and get closer to reaching their potential by encouraging them to understand who they are and WHY they are the leaders they are.

Let me clarify the "why": I am not talking about Simon Sinek's "why," which is great by the way, but rather, why do you hold the values that you do?

If family is one of your top values, great!! Have you ever tried to discover why family is in your top 3-5?

How about integrity? Where did you learn to value that so much?

Figuring out why you are wired the way you are will allow you to be a better version of yourself in every aspect of your life: as a professional, a spouse, a leader, a significant other, a child, a grandparent, a cousin, etc.

We all have our top values and NONE OF US ARE WRONG for the values we hold dear.

The challenge is to figure out where those came from, embrace them, and remain focused on them when leading. Simply put, lead in a manner that is comfortable to you.
