Learning & its own sets of fears

Over all these years of experience, I still learn something new every day. Let me tell you, sometimes it is not even planned. It is a choice I make to look at things with a different perspective, which leads me to this never-ending path of learning. Just like any other living being, I have faced my share of failures, restrictions and boundaries, and certainly, I will keep on facing them ahead. However, there still exists some fear in all the living beings. The fear of making inaccurate choices, experiencing a set-back or anything unknown. So, should we all just put a ‘full stop’ and do nothing? What if I tell you, we cannot stop at anything? So instead, let us acknowledge our fears today.

Change- We have met people who are perfect in their work. They know what they want and how they will achieve it and by when. These people have attained ultimate clarity of their plan of work. That is the time, when unknown circumstances test them and next thing they know is- nothing is working as planned. Here is when the fear of change strikes in. This is when the process of unplanned learning starts. Many might not know how to go about it, yet they should look beyond the surface. There are opportunities, experiences, growth and learning disguised in the form of this change and we all must acknowledge these instead of ignoring.

Failure- Our brain constantly keeps on producing thoughts, sometimes for the good and sometimes otherwise. We can keep on juggling our optimistic and pessimistic thoughts, until the latter take over. Now, we stand with a will to learn and grow, and with these thoughts of downfall. This is the time when you need to elevate your positivity quotient and broaden your perspective. Failures are part of our life and are short-term. The bigger picture is, they are an essential part of our learning and are quite certain to appear. Fearing will not eliminate failures, nevertheless facing might.

Success- There have been books, workshops and films about how to achieve success; however, there are very few materials available on the journey after success. Everyone wants to taste success, but back of their minds, they know it comes with huge responsibilities. With the great power, people even hold the possibility to lose it all and thus the fear of success is introduced. The thought that our success can be mishandled becomes a factor to reduce one’s confidence and create self-doubt. This is the moment to introspect and understand that success is not the destination, in fact, it the next big step in the process of learning.

So, we need to make sure that the learning- in and around us, is not hindered by any fear, which is the subset of learning.
