Is learning incomplete without creating?

In the age of Google, memory based learning cannot be considered anything that makes much contribution to the future of a learner. Being able to recall or remember a set of information is not enough. Anyone can google. Being able to explain the concept or idea goes a little higher in learning curve. However, it is better if someone is able to apply those little pieces of concepts into the real life. Further the learner should be able to distinguish between the various parts of a concept as a whole. It doesn’t stop here. The learner should be able to evaluate by justifying a decision or a position. Beyond that the learner should be able to create a new product, generate a new idea or create a different thought process.

That is Bloom’s revised level of taxonomy.

If we pay attention, it really makes much sense because in today’s context the need of the hour is to create, recreate and innovate.

It is understandable why accreditation agencies pay attention to the minute details of how a facilitator makes assessment of a learner.

Sometimes, we feel that these issues are not so important and are more of a formality. However, answer lies in the end product. The degree of knowledge a student achieves at the time of graduation may not be enough to sail through the bridge towards a working environment.

We should not complain then that the students do not get the employment that they look for. Actually, the employment can never be on platter for anyone. They have to fill up that gap and strive towards creativity. Even a little innovation from one can open doors of mental prosperity for millions of others.
