Learning the Importance of Serving

Finding a community in the transition into college is often difficult. Church and its community have always been a constant relationship in my life and I knew I wanted that coming into college. Serving and meeting people has always been something I love doing. Transitioning into college from out of state is hard and putting yourself out there to meet people is even harder. One Sunday I decided to go to Church of the Highlands and I met some of the best people. I have found my home away from home at Church of the Highlands.
For the past two years, I have sporadically served at Church of the Highlands. Doing different things such as leading a small group or going to serve with the Dream Team. Now going into my Junior year of college, I have decided to take my role at Church of the Highlands to another level. I have started the 252 internship this semester. In this semester-long internship with Church of the Highlands, you commit yourself to serve the church and the community. I have enjoyed learning more about my personal experiences and also getting to know other members in the internship. This has been a rewarding experience to interact with members of the Auburn community and fellow Auburn students.

Each Sunday, we attend a service and serve a service. Depending on the day, we can serve any role from working with kids, being a greeter to the community, or passing out connection cards. My favorite position we have served so far is the parking team. We guide the cars into spots in the parking lot and make sure everyone has a smile on their face as they walk into the building. These positions have taught me how to be more assertive and to work with many different types of people. As a member of the 252 Internship, we also set up and tear down ONE college. ONE is the service for just college students. I enjoy this weekly service because it is made up solely of college students. It is great to be in a room with people of the same age and the same season of life. It is amazing to see the growth not only of myself but also of the people who attend the service weekly.
Even though I have only been in the 252 internship a few short weeks, I feel like I have learned so much about myself. My leadership and communication skills have improved immensely. I have become better at time management and delegating tasks to other members in my group. It is so amazing to see the change in myself over the last few weeks. I cannot wait to continue this personal and spiritual growth in this internship.
